Find out how you’re helping patients like Tara
Hospitals can be scary places for children at the best of times, but incorporating playtime has been proven to help reduce fear, anxiety and stress during their treatment.
A safe space for play
With the amazing support of people like you, as well as a generous donation from the Bank of Montreal, we renovated the sensory room at The Royal London Hospital, giving children time away from the ward and a safe space to play.

Meet Tara
Tara was 3 years old when she was admitted to The Royal London Hospital after developing an uncommon ENT (ear, nose and throat) infection. She was on the Children’s Ward for a week.
She wasn’t able to leave the ward during this time, so the playroom and sensory room were the perfect escape to let her imagination run free.
The room offers a range of equipment designed to stimulate the senses, like fibre optic lights, bean bags, soft play cubes and an interactive floor projection.
Providing a quiet space for children and parents alike
The sensory room provides a calming, immersive and interactive space for young children, away from the distractions of the ward. Having a non-clinical and therapeutic environment helps to reduce stress and anxiety in both children and their parents. When Tara was in hospital, the sensory room provided a safe space for her to play and meet other children.

She had to sit in bed to have her IV antibiotics and like any 3-year-old, as soon as she started feeling better, she had so much energy. She missed the social interaction of nursery, so by having a dedicated play area she got to see other children her age. The sensory room provides the perfect amount of escapism and a gateway for little children to open up their imagination and forget that they're in a hospital environment. It really does help, and it's such a relief to have it.Preeti, Tara's mum
