Psychological Support Service for staff
Each of the five hospitals across Barts Health now have access to a dedicated psychologist
At Barts Charity, we believe that caring for our NHS staff members is a powerful way to improve healthcare for everyone.
On an average day, 7,250 people walk through the doors of a Barts Health hospital at some of the most important moments in their lives. NHS staff are there through it all – providing expert care, supporting recovery, and offering kindness when it matters most.
Supporting the wellbeing, motivation and recognition of Barts Health staff is a key part of our strategy. When staff feel valued, they deliver better care – something research consistently links to improved patient outcomes and staff retention.

An online platform that allows NHS staff to send ‘hearts’ and messages of appreciation to colleagues.
“Barts Hearts has been a fantastic tool which allows staff to send messages of support to colleagues. Around a third of staff use the platform weekly and they have told us it helps boost morale and makes them feel recognised in their job.”Daniel Waldron, Group Chief of People at Barts Health
At Barts Charity, we support the motivation, recognition and wellbeing of staff at Barts Health NHS Trust. We’ve invested in different ways to support staff. This has included research to better understand ways that burnout can be reduced for our NHS colleagues.
Thanks to our funding, staff at NHS Barts Health hospitals are finding support for mental health and wellbeing through art therapy.
A programme run by Barts Health cardiac staff to check the heart health of their colleagues has been nominated for two national NHS staff wellbeing awards
