Better care for us all
Supporting Barts Health staff ensures better quality care for our East London community
The long-term wellbeing of Barts Health NHS Trust staff is of great importance to us – and thanks to people like you, we can make sure they get all the support they need so they can continue to provide high quality care for the people of East London.
Through the highs and the lows, Barts Health staff are there – bringing care and warmth to some of life’s toughest moments. That’s why we’ve invested into spaces and services to help bring both their bodies and minds much deserved rest throughout their long shifts – see more below.
Wellbeing Hubs
We’ve invested into special spaces called wellbeing hubs designed for hospital staff to decompress away from patients and clinical areas. These spaces now benefit over 24,000 staff members and contractors at Barts Health. They have the potential to increase staff resilience, and reduce the significant risk of staff burnout.
The hubs are just beautiful, relaxing spaces and I’ve never seen anything like them in my 40 years working in the NHS.
– Geraldine Cunningham, Wellbeing Lead.

Upgraded staff facilities
Alongside the wellbeing hubs we’ve also upgraded other staff facilities across the five hospitals which were in desperate need of some love – such as the on-call overnight rooms for staff at The Royal London, Whipps Cross and Newham, locker rooms, showers and changing room facilities at Newham and Whipps Cross hospitals and brand new cycle storage for staff at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
The impact of psychological support
We are committed to supporting both the physical and mental wellbeing of our Barts Health staff. With the help of supporters like you, we established the Barts Health Psychological Support Service in 2021. Since then, over 16,000 Barts Health staff members have benefitted from it.

The most impactful thing we can do to ensure high quality patient care is to care for those who are tirelessly caring for patients.Carla Croft, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and the service lead for the Team Barts Health
Chanelle’s experience
Hear from Staff Nurse Chanelle at The Royal London Hospital about her experience of the Psychological Support Service.
I never wanted to talk about my feelings before. But after speaking with her I began speaking to colleagues and it was refreshing to see that everyone was experiencing the same things as me.
