How your fundraising could help

As East London’s oldest healthcare charity, we’ve been at the forefront of advancing healthcare for hundreds of years. The hospitals we support provide excellent care to their patients. Yet too many people’s lives in East London are affected by ill health. At Barts Charity we have East London in our hearts and we want healthier, longer lives for everyone in our community.

Together with our partners we make better healthcare possible, funding brilliant ideas and ground-breaking research to transform lives. You could be supporting people like Lizzi, who benefitted from an innovative and life-saving project funded directly by Barts Charity. Read more of Lizzi’s story

FAQ's

The challenge asks you to walk a mile a day in April in a way that suits you. You can do this by walking a mile (or more) every day in April or if you miss a day, you can make it up on another!

All the info you need to join is in our Facebook group. Click here to join and follow the instructions in the pinned post.

Yes! Every step you complete will help support the work we do across Barts Health. So, do this challenge in whatever way works best for you. Every mile counts!

Please visit the Files tab of our Facebook group where you’ll find our fantastic mile tracker to keep a daily count of your progress. You’ll also receive a printed one with your t-shirt. The most important thing is that you post updates on your Facebook fundraiser so your friends and family can see how hard you’re pushing yourself.

There are lots of different apps you can use on your smartphone to keep track of your distance. We suggest using one like Strava or you can also use the Health app on your iPhone or Google Fit on your Android phone. This is a self-reported challenge, so you don’t need to submit how far you’re doing to us, but please do share your progress in our Facebook group to let everyone know how you are getting on.

Yes! We’d recommend setting one Facebook Fundraiser up between you and editing the information on it to reflect you’re doing it as a team. Everyone can then share that link.

Absolutely – we know not everyone uses Facebook or might not want to use Facebook for their fundraising. When you register, you will also be offered the chance to create a JustGiving page instead of a Facebook one. You can still join our Facebook group even if you are using JustGiving to fundraise but if you decide not to join it, you will still hear from us throughout the challenge letting you know how its all going via email.

The money raised from this challenge will be used to support the wide range of projects that are funded every year by Barts Charity and Barts Health NHS Trust. Every year we fund dozens of innovative research and clinical projects, which with the support of people like you, will help transform healthcare in East London. However if you would the money you raise to go towards a specific SPF or hospital then please contact us at fundraising@bartscharity.org.uk and we can discuss how to best allocate your fundraising.

Only people over 18 can join the Facebook group and register for the challenge, but you are welcome to fundraise together as a family if you wish. Unfortunately, we do not have children’s size t-shirts.

T-shirts are sent out twice a week so we advise that delivery could be up to 12 working days. If it has been longer than 12 days we can check with our fulfilment partners to check. To be eligible for a free t-shirt, participants must create a fundraising page on either Facebook or JustGiving so this must be checked before a replacement is sent.

Unfortunately, we can only swap sizes if the incorrect size was sent out.

We are sorry to hear that you can no longer take part. Donations that have been made will already be with us. If any of your Facebook donors would like their donation refunded then they can visit the Facebook Support Centre via this form https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/10561656330779 and make their request.

You can read the terms and conditions of the challenge here.
