Comforting Spaces

Help us continue bringing warmth and comfort to hospital spaces.

Making hospital stays a little better

Hospitals can be overwhelming – that goes for patients, their loved ones and staff, too.

By helping us provide warm, home-like spaces for patients to take a quiet moment in, make a cup of tea or sit with a loved one, you can make a patient’s hospital stay a little better.

Taking care of older patients

You can help us be there for older patients suffering from dementia – being outside of their normal environment can often be scary and cause confusion. When patients arrive at the Older People’s Services Ward at The Royal London Hospital, it can be an emotional and daunting experience for both them and their families.

Dementia friendly ward

The Dementia and Delirium team does Cafe Club every Tuesday and they’ll all come and have a cup of tea and biscuits in there, lunch and a little chat. You can see on their faces how much they enjoy it, just having a little chat with everyone.

With help from supporters like you, we can continue being there for older patients by providing them with safe, calming spaces to be in.

Taking care of cancer patients

Many cancer patients spend extensive periods of time at hospital – like Lewis, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer when he was just 21 years old.

You can help cancer patients like Lewis feel more at home by supporting us in providing more spaces like the kitchen and diner at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Kitchen Diner - A home away from home

Lewis has autism, and at first, he found the unfamiliar hospital experience quite stressful. The kitchen diner has provided a welcoming, relaxing space when Lewis needed a break away from the hustle and bustle of the ward.

Lewis’ dad George shared with us:

When Lewis has stem cell treatment, he needs to stay at the ward for three weeks at a time. Lewis is autistic, so he found it really stressful at first – he needs to have a familiar routine and know what he’s doing next. The diner is a nice quiet spot for him, away from the busyness of the ward.

Despite being nervous at first, Lewis gradually built-up trust with all the staff on the ward and now has a great relationship with them – and the shared space helps him build relationships and provides him with a nice change of scenery.

Help more patients like Lewis
This space gives people a sense of a warm welcome. Everyone gets together in the day room – they eat their food, have conversation with each other. People from different backgrounds can connect with each other. It creates a nice community – helps patients interact with one another. Lewis and another patient got to know each other in there.

Taking care of loved ones

We’ve recently refurbish a dedicated space for patients and their families within the Sycamore Ward at Whipps Cross Hospital. This ward provides compassionate end-of-life care to the people of East London and is a place where many patients and their families encounter some of the most poignant moments in their lives.

The tranquil environment provides a space for loved ones to spend precious last moments together or grieve in a dignified and peaceful setting.

The Day Room - a calming space for loved ones

We created a haven of comfort using calming LED sky-like panels in the ceiling to simulate daylight from a beautiful blue day. Comfortable furniture invites families to  gather and share memories, enhanced by a projector displaying cherished photos on the wall.

The Day Room stands as a testament to your commitment to our mission, creating a positive impact that reaches far beyond its physical boundaries. Families find comfort, staff discover respite and patients experience solace thanks to your invaluable support.
