Whipps Cross Hospital was originally set up as an annexe to West Ham Union Workhouse in 1894 before becoming the West Ham Union Infirmary in 1903. It was renamed ‘Whipps Cross’ in honour of King George V’s visit in 1917.
The hospital is located in Leytonstone, within the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It joined the Barts Health NHS Trust in 2012.
Whipps Cross Hospital has a full range of general inpatient, outpatient and day case services. The hospital has a strong reputation as a centre of excellence for various specialist services including urology, ENT, audiology and acute stroke care.
Projects we have funded recently at Whipps Cross Hospital include the redevelopment of the women’s and maternity services. Our funding has transformed the “cramped” and “ageing” unit into a modern and welcoming space for expectant mothers.
