We are very excited to welcome and introduce you to our brand-new Chair, Steve Bonnard.
About Steve Bonnard
Steve joins Barts Charity with over 25 years of executive financial experience. Following a successful career as a partner at Bridgepoint, a London listed international equity firm, he has focused his career on impact, growth, technology and healthcare. He has previously sat on numerous boards.
“I was drawn to Barts Charity because of the impact they are making in driving cutting edge research and development and innovating healthcare services. A few of the projects that I've been really inspired by include a recent investment into AI which will help detect early signs of cancer, and the new Centre for Tuberculosis is also very exciting. I'm excited to see how Barts Charity can be there through it all for our East London community.”Steve Bonnard
“We’re really pleased to have Steve on board at Barts Charity. He is committed and passionate about our mission and vision for a healthier East London. I look forward to working with him.”Fiona Miller Smith, Chief Executive of Barts Charity
Saying goodbye to Andy Bruce
This means that we will be saying goodbye to Andy Bruce – who has been the Chair since 2021.
While Andy Bruce has been Chair, we implemented our 2022-27 strategy for healthy East London lives. The strategy is on course to meet its target of funding £150m across five years into projects and medical research which improves healthcare for our East London community.
Under Andy’s stewardship we have also raised millions of pounds to support a brand-new Clinical Research Facility at The Royal London Hospital (with thanks to the Charles Wolfson Charitable Trust and The Wolfson Foundation, as well as the Bank of Montreal). This will:
- improve local access to novel therapies
- increase the number of clinical trials in East London
- increase opportunities for clinicians to engage in research
