Advancing Healthcare Small Grants

 

Our Advancing Healthcare Small Grants provide funding for NHS staff to pilot new ideas, technologies and ways of working within Barts Health NHS Trust that could advance healthcare delivery and improve the health of our local community.

If your project requires more funding, we also offer Advancing Healthcare Large Grants for funding over £75,000.

Advancing Healthcare Small Grants information

Lead applicant

All individuals who are employed by Barts Health NHS Trust, and will be for the duration of the proposed work, may apply for an Advancing Healthcare Grant.

The lead applicant will lead the project if the application is successful. They will submit the form and be our main point of contact during the application and review process.

Co-applicants

An application may include up to four co-applicants. These individuals can be external to Barts Health, if their expertise is needed for success of the project.

All  Advancing Healthcare Grant applications are assessed using the same criteria:

  • Benefit – clear benefit to patients and/or members of the communities served by Barts Health in terms of clinical outcomes and/or experience.
  • Originality – level of originality and/or creativity. Applications proposing the early adoption of new, innovative technologies or initiatives will be considered.
  • Alignment with Barts Health – support from relevant management at Barts Health and alignment with the long-term plans of Barts Health and/or the NHS.
  • Engagement – engagement with and involvement of patients, the public, local services, researchers and/or clinical networks (as appropriate).
  • Maintainability – plans and commitment to ensuring the proposed healthcare improvement initiative will lead to lasting positive change, or be introduced on a permanent basis following the potential period of funding.
  • Suitability – consider whether we are the most suitable funder for this project compared to other funding sources available.

Funding up to a maximum of £75,000 for up to 18 months.

Through this scheme we are able to provide funding for:

  • Salaries for new staff resources.
  • Medical equipment and associated consumables.
  • Costs for patient and public engagement.

We understand that healthcare improvement initiatives may vary in size and scope, and as such we also offer:

  • Funding for basic science and clinical research projects. These are supported by our research funding opportunities;
  • Equipment that is essential to core patient safety and/or care.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of hospital estates and facilities.
  • Initiatives related to staff wellbeing.

Application and assessment process

Discuss your proposal with senior members of your department, service or hospital. Identify a finance manager at your hospital who can support you to cost your proposal.

Complete the online application form. Remember to save your application often and attach all the necessary documents before submission.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on the day of the deadline.

Our Funding and Impact team will check that your application is eligible for this scheme. We’ll be in touch if we have any questions.

Applications are assessed by our Healthcare Funding Advisory Panel against the criteria in the ‘What we look for’ section.

Applicants will be informed within 6 weeks of the Stage 1 deadline whether their application will proceed to Stage 2.

Applicants invited to Stage 2 will receive a link to access and update their application form, incorporating any feedback provided by the Healthcare Funding Advisory Panel.

The finance manager must review and approve the revised application before it is submitted to the Charity.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on the day of the deadline.

Funding decisions are made by Barts Charity.

We share full applications with the Healthcare Funding Advisory Panel for their advice and guidance. We may approach relevant teams within Barts Health if we need additional input to help us assess your application.

We aim to let you know the outcome of your application within 4 weeks of the Stage 2 deadline.
