Bringing new fundraising efforts to Whipps Cross Hospital

04 Oct 2019

After successfully launching our new fundraising drive at Newham Hospital, last Friday we officially rolled it out to Whipps Cross Hospital as well.

At the ribbon cutting, we were joined by Alwen Williams, CEO of Barts Health NHS Trust, and Alan Gurney, MD of Whipps Cross Hospital, as well as many of the amazing staff who appear on our posters.

A dedicated charity

As the dedicated charity for Whipps Cross Hospital, we are continually working to support amazing patient care, through funding projects that have real impact. For example, our recent £6.8million grant to redevelop the Women's and Neonatal Unit at Whipps Cross, and the changes on older people's wards that put the needs of those with dementia at the heart of their design (see below).

Our new fundraising drive is designed to raise more so that we can do even more to benefit patients and staff in hospital. All the funds raised at Whipps Cross will be spent at Whipps Cross.

What's new?

Visitors to Whipps Cross will quickly spot our gigantic new posters around the hospital, featuring real staff with real passion.

As mother of patient Zaki says, "It's so so important to have a poster of a member of staff that patients and their families can actually relate to. Someone they have met, conversed with and many times been comforted by when their child has been sick."

We have also installed several contactless donation points throughout the hospital to make it easier than ever to donate. You can find them:

  • At the main reception
  • At the Outpatients reception
  • At the till points in the Eat Well café and restaurant

Our thanks to Outpatients General Manager, Wade Norcott (pictured fourth right) for becoming our first contactless donor at Whipps Cross. In the first 6 weeks after Newham's launch, we received over a 100 contactless donations there - and we hope to see even more for Whipps Cross!

A celebration of fundraising

To launch our new way of working, our CEO, Fiona Miller Smith, was joined by Alwen Williams and Alan Gurney, heads of the Trust and Whipps Cross Hospital respectively. We also had special appearances from some of the amazing staff who appear on our new posters - Pervaiz, Ghislaine, David, Joanna and Sanghajit.

Three of our staff models told us why they got involved with Barts Charity:

A huge thanks to all our fantastic models: David Adeogun, Kara Baah, Joanna Hayward, Pervaiz Khan, Safiya Mohamud, Polly Newman, David Smith, Ghislaine Stephenson and Sanghajit Wilmott.
