Golfers pay tribute to their friend

Members of Woodford Golf Club have raised over £500 with a charity match in memory of their friend and former member, David.

The “Webby Trophy” was founded by David after learning he had cancer in 2007. It’s been contested each year since then between Woodford and Maldon golf clubs – both of which David was a member of.

David was cared for at St Bartholomew’s before sadly passing away in 2009. The trophy is a way for the two clubs to honour his memory each year while raising funds for our charity to support patients with cancer.

Roy, David’s father and past president of the club - pictured (left), and Paul, club Captain - pictured (right), presented a cheque for £505 to our Community Manager Simon.

“This year was the 10th year the event has been played,” said Roy. “In the latter years of David’s life he created the friendly match – and played in the first two – which became a yearly match in aid of Barts Charity.”

Simon added: “Thank you to Roy and all the members of Woodford and Maldon golf clubs – it is a very special way to honour David’s memory while supporting patients with cancer.”
