New breast cancer clinic opens at Whipps Cross

Patients will get faster diagnosis for suspected breast cancer with a new service that’s opened at Whipps Cross Hospital – part-funded by us with support from Whipps Cross League of Friends.

The new facility – The Peter Frecker Clinic – was designed with the help of patient feedback, and means that patients will now be able to get an examination, scan and biopsy (if needed) all during the same appointment.

This “one stop” service means a quicker diagnosis, and will help to avoid the need for repeat trips to the hospital for patients.

With Whipps Cross League of Friends, we’ve funded some of the redevelopment – including a new reception area, furniture, and a quiet room for patients.

In addition, a range of pictures that were chosen by patients are being displayed to decorate some of the walls of the clinic.

The clinic was opened by the Rt. Hon Iain Duncan Smith, Member of Parliament for Chingford and Woodford Green, and is named after Peter Frecker – a surgeon who’s worked at Whipps Cross since 1984.

Also in attendance at the opening were our Chief Executive, Fiona Miller Smith (pictured on right of main image), and the Chief Executive of Barts Health NHS Trust, Alwen Williams, who thanked staff and patients for helping to develop the new £300,000 service.
