Jackie’s incredible fundraising continues with £19,000 donation to leukaemia research

02 Nov 2017

Jackie Brown (pictured, holding the cheque) was inspired to fundraise for leukaemia research at St Bartholomew’s Hospital after her sister Ingrid’s diagnosis devastated the family.

There was a treatment available to Ingrid thanks to previous research by her consultant Dr Samir Agrawal (pictured, third right) and his team. Jackie says: “We sat in front her consultant and he stated that a few years ago the news he was giving her today would have been entirely different.

“The more funds that are made available to the research team, the more chance we have of finding a cure one day.”

With a little help from her employer, Jackie recently donated an incredible £19,000 following a series of quiz nights and gala balls; this means that she’s raised almost £60,000 since 2013!

CEO of Anglo American, Mark Cutifani (pictured, second left), has been supportive of Jackie’s efforts. She says “The company I work for, Anglo American, treat the staff as one big family and are always at hand when needed.  I have been given the support of the company when fundraising, including match funding. I am also very fortunate that many of my work colleagues at Anglo American support my events, buying tickets, bidding at the auctions or donating if they can’t be there on the night.”

Jackie adds: “Another very huge aspect is that Dr Agrawal and his wife, Pinky, are always on hand to support me, and actually take the time to attend.”

Thank you so much to Jackie and her employer Anglo American for their generous donation, which will undoubtedly help Dr Agrawal and his team in their pursuit of improved treatments for this devastating disease.
