A festive football treat for patients

22 Dec 2016

Children in the hospitals we support were treated to visits from players from Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Leyton Orient this Christmas.

Patients staying Whipps Cross Hospital and Newham Hospital were given gifts by the players and had the opportunity to chat to them and have their photo taken.

The visits mean a lot to young patients (as well as their families and a few staff!), especially football fans, including Reece (pictured - main image) who has been a mascot for West Ham at one of their home games.

Players included Robbie Weir, captain of Leyton Orient; Hugo Lloris from Tottenham men’s and Leah Rawle from Tottenham ladies; and Adrian from West Ham.

Ghislaine Stevenson, Associate Director of Nursing for Children, said: "Each visit and gift at Christmas time means the world to our young patients; the smiles on their faces say it all!”

Robbie Weir added: “It’s very important to give hope and a boost to the young kids who are in hospital at this special time of year instead of being at home with their families.”

We’re hugely grateful to all involved at the football clubs for their ongoing support – we know how much it means to patients, and look forward to working with them again!
