Donating gifts, toys and games

Giving toys, games, treats or other presents for patients is a kind thought. But the best gift that you can give your hospitals is a donation - no matter how big or small!

Your support will mean the hospitals of Barts Health NHS Trust can continue to offer extraordinary healthcare to everyone they look after.

What difference could my donation make?

Every donation to Barts Charity counts. And they add up to make an even bigger difference for patients! Your support could:

  • improve and update hospital buildings and facilities
  • provide life-changing specialist equipment
  • support world-leading research
  • fund projects that improve the health and wellbeing of your local community

Yes, I would like to make a donation

What if I’d still like to donate a gift?

At Christmas, we strongly discourage supporters from sending in gifts, as we can find it difficult to manage the volume and ensure proper infection control in our hospitals. Each year we run a Greatest Gift appeal and ask for virtual gifts instead. Keep checking back on our website for more information.

During the rest of the year, if you’d prefer to donate an item of course we’d be very grateful! Donations of toys or games will be given to our hospital Play Teams and used to help younger patients cope with their hospital experience. Other gifts will be shared with the most appropriate ward or service.

What type of gifts are useful?

Our younger patients love:

  • Stationery, arts and craft materials e.g. paints, paper, colouring pencils, crayons, craft kits
  • Toys and board games for older children
  • Stimulating, developmental toys for babies and young children

Everyone loves:

  • Books
  • Media and technology e.g. portable dvd players, dvds, headphones

What shouldn’t I give?

Infection control in hospital is very important. As a result, we cannot accept:

  • Used or second-hand items (toys, games, clothes, books or magazines)
  • Items that cannot easily be washed or wiped clean
  • Very large soft toys
  • Food or perishable items
Thank you for thinking of us!
