“This Christmas is going to be harder than ever for the frail and vulnerable patients in the hospital. It is likely that visiting will remain restricted and many of our older patients have struggled to adjust to our PPE and hear us talking through masks and visors.
It is very important that we are able to offer them some comfort and joy in the midst of a very bleak winter. Everyone deserves a gift during the festive season and many of our patients are extremely grateful to have something to open on Christmas Day, and some of our older patients will have no other family or friends to provide this.”
“Christmas for some can be a lonely affair. Handing out presents also provides the staff with some light relief too. The toll of long hours and uncertainty over the past year has put many of us under significant stress. Knowing that we can do something positive and make our patients feel more at home will be an important part of our day. Having something ‘normal’ such as a Christmas treat is going to be more important than ever this year.”
Help Support NHS staff like Sophie bring Christmas to our local hospitals this year. The more East Londoners who get involved the better we can make it.
