Thank you for Sending a Smile!

05 Jan 2017

Thanks to you, every child in the hospitals we support woke up to a gift on Christmas morning. And, for the first time, every older patient also received a gift.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to #SendaSmile this Christmas.

And you also supported us with over £10,000 in donations!

This amazing total helped patients have the best Christmas possible, as well as supporting the vital work of the hospital Play Team and Older People’s Services in the care they give to patients throughout the year.

Donations also helped to put on a Christmas party for the children, where around 100 current and former patients were able to visit Santa’s grotto and enjoy some creative activities.

“We always try to make being in hospital or having treatment as easy as possible for children,” said Tara Shea, Play Team Leader. “This is especially important at Christmas, which can be a very difficult time for those who are unwell or who have lost loved ones.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to Barts Charity and all those who supported us with generous donations through the Send a Smile with Santa appeal. We were able to ensure that all the patients had smiles on their faces and spread some holiday cheer throughout the wards.”

Dionne Daniel is Senior Nurse for Older People’s Services, and said: “The patients were overwhelmed to be remembered – and family members and staff were also grateful.

“One patient in particular who had been very sad gave a big smile when getting a present. All the gifts really helped to alleviate boredom.

“I’d like to thank all who supported Barts Charity’s appeal for their amazing generosity. 2016 has been a tough year but you have certainly made it better.”

Thank you again to each and every one of you who brightened someone’s Christmas with #SendaSmile – as well as to all the amazing volunteers who helped to decorate the wards and wrap the presents!
