From Porto to Whipps Cross

23 Feb 2016

Alan Merry presented a cheque for £1,146 to the Whipps Cross Dermatology Clinic this week to say thank you, 20 years after a routine visit led to a diagnosis of malignant melanoma.

Alan was able to make this extraordinary donation after raising funds by taking part in the Porto Half Marathon last October.

“The Whipps Cross Hospital Dermatology Clinic provides expert care to patients with skin conditions and cancers. It was humbling that many friends and colleagues sponsored me.

"Running a half-marathon in the 27 degree heat of Porto, Portugal was challenging. I owe much to Dr Bewley and his colleagues so it was well worth it to raise much needed funds. Without them I would not be here today. I am proud to be a friend of the Clinic.”

Alan also donated an Essex County Cricket signed cricket bat to the clinic, signed by many well-known cricketers including Darren Gough and Alastair Cook.

Alan says this will be his last fundraising run for the clinic, but still has plans to support the team in other ways in the future.

Thank you, Alan, for your amazing efforts!
