M&S Paternoster Square choose Barts Charity as charity of the year for second year running

08 Apr 2016

We’re delighted to say that staff at the Paternoster Square branch of Marks & Spencer have once again chosen us as their local charity of the year, following their incredible support during 2015-16, fundraising for the Barts Heart Centre.

Inspired by Charity Champion Evelyn Taylor, staff promoted us by collecting in store, wearing our purple T-shirts with pride, and handing out leaflets.

Following a tour of the Barts Heart Centre, located at St Bartholomew’s Hospital round the corner from their branch, the team were spurred on to do their utmost in their fundraising.

Six months later, they handed us a cheque for an amazing £2,276.07 – 100% of which is going straight to help patients and staff at the centre.

“Our customers have been so generous,” Evelyn said. “They’ve been keen to show their support of the Barts Heart Centre and fill our collection tins very quickly.”

The amount raised is the largest the store has ever collected for a local charity, and store Manager Chris Tallany (pictured, middle left) puts this down to staff and customers’ passion to help a local cause.

“Cardiac health is so important and a lot of people have a personal connection to cardiac health issues. A relative of mine had a bypass operation 20 years ago and it was such a huge thing for him to face. Now, the Barts Heart Centre is delivering outstanding results for patients on a daily basis.”

Speaking about choosing us again, Evelyn said: “We hope our wonderful customers will help us raise even more this year. We’ve set a target of £3,000, so expect to see us wearing our purple T-shirts even more over the next 12 months!”

We’re so grateful to Evelyn, Chris and all the staff and customers of M&S Paternoster Square for their support.

“Visiting the store and seeing everyone in purple was fantastic – and they’re always smiling!” said Simon Pitts, Community Manager at Barts Charity. “We’re honoured to have their support again for 2016-17.

“On behalf of all the patients at the Barts Heart Centre who will benefit, we’d like to say a massive thank you to the M&S staff and for everyone who has donated so far.”
