East London Mosques show support for bereaved families

14 Apr 2016

More than 15 mosques across East London have given a generous donation of £2,500 to help bereaved families at Barts Health NHS Trust.

As part of their Local Charities Appeal, the money was raised from collections held on Christmas Day 2015.

It will help care for women who suffer a miscarriage or stillbirth at Newham and Whipps Cross Hospitals.

The bereavement service at Barts Health will improve the care environment and facilities, with purchases so far including a new, more comfortable bed at Newham and a recliner chair for partners at Whipps Cross. Private counselling rooms at The Royal London will also be redecorated – providing support at a distressing time for patients.

Representatives from the mosques – across Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest – presented the cheque to Barts Charity Chairman Michael Smith and Community Manager Simon Pitts, alongside clinical and senior staff at Barts Health (all pictured).

Speaking about the event and the donation, Simon said: “We’re thrilled to have this support from the local Muslim community. The generous donations made through the mosques’ Local Charities Appeal will provide direct help to bereaved patients and families in the hospitals we support.”

Thank you once again to all involved!
