Marathon Countdown: Emma's Story

31 Mar 2017

Emma’s a member of the Dementia and Delirium team at Barts Health.

She says “I hope that by taking on this challenge and fundraising for the Dementia and Delirium teams we can help fund and support innovative new projects to improve the experience of individuals living with dementia who are admitted to hospital.”

She’s fundraising for the team’s Special Purpose Fund (SPF), meaning that they can decide exactly how to spend the donations to best benefit the older patients on their wards.

Some of the previous initiatives they've used their SPF for are:

  • Buying cardigans for their patients which they presented as a birthday gift or when they were discharged home
  • Developing the staff in the team with Namaste training, helping them to provide end-of-life care and ease patients in distress

“This will be my second marathon...and the first one was probably one of the most horrific things I have ever done!!” She added.

We hope that this marathon is less painful for you Emma! Thank you SO much for the amazing fundraising that you and the team are doing to improve the care you’re giving to your older patients.

Emma is not the only person in the team getting her running shoes on this Spring - Lucy Cosgrove is running the Brighton Marathon for us too!
