Darren’s dedication on World Cancer Day

07 Feb 2017

On Saturday – World Cancer Day – Darren took to the hills of Lee Valley Velopark to tackle a half marathon for the Bodley Scott cancer wards at St Bartholomew’s.

It’s a place he knows well, and his determination to do as much as he can to support it is inspiring.

“I believe I can do more to help the hospital in its fight against cancer as it’s helped my mum, two of my cousins and a dear friend of mine in their respective journeys.”

Darren raised £130 from his half marathon, along with over £300 from a 5k he ran last year. All of this will go directly to the wards to help patients with cancer and the care staff give to them.

“It took me a little over two hours to complete the course,” he said. “It was wet, windy and very hard going in the rain but worth all the hours of hard work I put into it.”

Darren’s got his sights set on tackling more events for us in the year ahead too as he continues his support of the hospital.

“Nothing pleases me more than wearing the purple and I can’t wait to do it all over again,” he added.

Thank you Darren!
