Clinical Research Training Fellowships

Are you a trained doctor planning to work on an original research project as part of an MD or PhD, with a supervisor at Barts Health NHS Trust or Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry? If so, these two funding schemes can help you.

Details on the application process and closing date can be found at the bottom of the page.

Scheme A

If you have no existing funding, this scheme provides pump-priming funding to enable you to develop sufficient preliminary data to apply to major funders, such as the Medical Research Council or The Wellcome Trust.

Funding is for one year, although we’ll underwrite a second year, provided a genuine attempt has been made to apply for an external clinical research fellowship, even if this was not successful.

The scheme is not open to NIHR Academic Clinical Fellows, as they are already in a pump-priming scheme.

Scheme B

This scheme is for medically qualified trainees already registered for an MD or PhD and who’ve already received one or two years’ of research funding from a recognised, nationally competitive award. This scheme is to help you complete studies/experiments.

Funding is for one year only.

The scheme is open to Clinical Research Training Fellows who received an external Fellowship award for an MD/PhD while a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow.
